HEBREW
At the Belgravia Cheder, we utilise a highly successful reading programme called the Aleph Champ program. This highly effective and motivating program is designed in a similar manner to the traditional Karate system: using different colours to represent a hierarchy of levels in proficiency.
Aleph Champ is an incredible tool for our students, enabling each student to work at his/her own pace and take pride as they master one level and move up to the next.
Our goal is that upon graduation, every child will be fluent in and comfortable reading Hebrew, including many of the prayers from Jewish liturgy.
We also offer an advanced Hebrew program introducing conversational Hebrew.
HOLIDAYS
Stimulating lessons on Jewish holidays enliven the calendar as we proceed from Rosh Hashanah and the High Holidays through Chanukah, Purim, Passover, Lag Be’omer and Shavuot. The students gain practical instruction in the traditions through meaningful and interactive workshops, field trips, discussions, arts & crafts, and hands-on learning.
They also learn about the meaning and customs of each holiday and their relevance to contemporary life.
HISTORY
At the Gan, students learn about the foundation and history of our people, through fascinating texts, stories, and characters from the beginning of time through the present.
PRAYER & SONG
Prayer time focuses on the study and understanding of prayer and the Siddur (prayer book).
Students learn the meaning and customs of each prayer, as well as many songs from Jewish liturgy. The aim of our Prayer curriculum is to familiarise students with Synagogue protocol and prayer experience, giving each child the knowledge and tools to participate in prayer services with comfort and confidence.
JEWISH LIFE
Students explore and experience essential Jewish Mitzvot such as Shabbat, Kosher, Mezuza, Tzedaka (charity), Respecting Parents, making Blessings and more.
ISRAEL
The land of Israel is at the centre of our Jewish tradition. The special Israel Project helps the children learn about the history, geography, people, and culture of biblical and modern Israel.
MIDDOT
Our sages teach that fine character traits are one of the most important things to learn and acquire. The Hebrew word for character trait is ‘Middot’ and every month we will focus on one trait and help the children learn the significance of it and how to practically apply it.
BAR MITZVAH DISCOVERY COURSE
The Bar Mitzvah Discovery Course is designed to educate and inspire Jewish boys as they enter adulthood. Through stimulating discussions and hands on exercises, the course covers many of the basics of Jewish history, philosophy and life, including holidays, life-cycle and Mitzvot, prayer protocol, as well as Hebrew language and reading.
BAT MITZVAH CLUB
The Bat Mitzvah Club is designed to educate and inspire Jewish girls as they enter adulthood. Through a well- developed curriculum, students gain a deeper understanding of what it means to be a modern Jewish woman. Through meaningful discussions, activities and experiences, the girls discover the strength of a Jewish woman and her unique and elevated position in Judaism.
